The New “Buzz” On The Net

Here is a piece of news for people looking for a good online word processor. Adobe has acquired Virtual Ubiquity’s BuzzWord, a word processing application that is easy-to-use and full of features.

BuzzWord is perfect if you are looking to work with a team. You can grant what role they will have by clicking on the “share” button on the bottom left of the document and entering their email address and role. You can see each other while online and checkout the changes they made.

This online word processing application lets you work with your team in real time. There are three roles that you can assign to other collaborators – co-author, reviewer and reader. The co-author has full editing access while the reviewer can only add comments and the reader, as the name implies can only read the article.

One important feature of this word processor is that, when you take a printout, the page looks just the same as it looks on-screen! Even the popular Google docs sometimes fail to print the page as it looks on your PC screen. The reason is, BuzzWord is built with Adobe Flash and hence can bypass the problem HTML has with the layout of the page. As a result, you can work on your file online and get a hard copy, if needed. BuzzWord also keeps track of different versions of a document so that if needed, you can revert back to any previous version.

The best part of this application is definitely the fact that it is free! It is still in developing stages and Adobe is hoping to bring an offline version pretty soon.

Make Your Photo Editing an Easy Job With Bling! It

When editing a photo, you must have experienced that changing the background often takes a lot of time. Especially if you are editing a photo for any auction sites like eBay or Amazon, it becomes a headache for any professional. This is also true if you are an online businessman and need to edit your website to include nice and attractive images for the products you sell. The background has to be made attractive as well as it has to be done in minimal time possible. If you are in the business of any kind of photo editing, then you will surely love Bling! It.

Developed by Vertus, this software makes photo editing easier than ever even for novices! All you have to do is to cut the item you are editing, and then just put it in a new background. It is true that you can do it all with any photo editing software but the advantage of Bling! It is that it traces the key edges of the image! You can just use the red delete brush (96 – pixel) and define the porting of the photo you wish to delete (basically all the area outside the key edges). You can see the progress in the right-hand side window, called The Paintway Viewer in real time.

If you think that the delete brush is too big, you can use a smaller Delete Brush or an Exact Delete brush to extract the image from the background. Now you can choose any of the background from the “special effects” tab. The collection is huge; you will surely find something of your liking. If not, you can always create it or import it if you want. You can drop a shadow, sharpen the image (and they won’t look jagged or ragged) or change the resolution if you wish. Your photo is ready to be auctioned off! Highly recommended.

Blender 2.46 – The Power-packed 3D Animator

Blender is an immensely popular cross platform 3D animation creator. The latest version of this software Blender 2.46 has been released on May 17th this year and till date the software has been downloaded almost 158,000 times from Download.com. This information is enough to mark the popularity of Blender. Basically Blender is a 3D animation program released as free open-source software. This is no doubt a powerful weapon for the 3D animation professionals. Some of the features it offers are advanced simulation tools including rigid body, fluid, and soft body dynamics, modifier based modeling tools, powerful character animation tools, node based material and compositing system and Python for embedded scripting. To some extent Blender is as powerful as other advanced 3D software like Softimage|XSI, Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max, Lightwave and Maya.

Learning the application of blender is easy thanks to various community tutorials and discussion forums available on internet. You can also learn by downloading the software and studying the ready-made Blender models. Such models are easily available on the resource sites like Official Blender Model Repository. There are other useful tools as well like free downloadable BlenderArt Magazine. Each issue of the magazine covers a particular area in 3D development. You can also refer to BlenderNation, the central news site with all the required information, new techniques and features on Blender.

You can use Blender for modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, rigging, water simulations, skinning, animating, rendering, particle and other simulations, non-linear editing, compositing, and creating interactive 3D applications. This can be operated with different OS including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and many more.

For some specific type of websites like sites related to kids, a small 3D animation can increase its visual impact several times. So if you own such a website and want to edit your website by adding some animations, Blender can be a good option. It will save your money not only because it is free, but also you can create some animations on your own with the help of online resources along with some basic technical knowledge.

4 Factors To Check Before Buying A Video Editing Software

Google it and you will find numerous video editing software. Be an amateur or a pro – you might be confused about which software to choose from the huge list. The price range is also vast. It can vary anywhere from US$100 to US$2500. There are some factors that mainly determine the type of software you should buy depending on your requirements:

  • Fix your budget – decide how much you can spend for the buy. But if you’re a beginner, complicated editing tools like Adobe Premier Pro is not for you right now. Get experienced with less expensive packages like Roxio or Pinnacle Studio Plus.
  • Bundle or No-bundle - Check whether if you are getting bundle of software with the video editing package. You can always go for products like Sony Vegas. This is a complete creation package. If you can manage one such deal, there is nothing better than this as these packages are not very common. If you decide to buy the software separately, it will cost you hundreds of dollars extra.
  • Compatibility - Check whether the package supports all the formats you want to export and import. Suppose you want to import RealMedia videos, make sure that your video packages support the import. While exporting, also ensure your package support the formats. Suppose you want to finish a video in Windows Media file. So make sure, your software package supports the format.
  • Advance Features - Decide upon the type of special effects you want. If you want more, you need to pay more – this is the simple rule. Less expensive software can provide you with the in built special effects without any scope of customization. But with the expensive software, you can have customization and flexibility of special effects. So if you are professional Roxio is not for you. Adobe Premier is the best option for you.
There are several types of video editing software with several features. Why pay extra for the features that you don’t need? Pay for as much as you can utilize. But at the same time, do not compromise any feature that you really need to maintain a quality video for the money matter.

Who Pays For Your YouTube Videos – Have You Ever Thought?

I was just surfing Internet, when this interesting article caught my eyes. It was on Adobe Flash player. Have you ever wondered how much Adobe gets paid by Google (the owner of YouTube) for using its Flash multimedia software? If you are thinking in billions, you are thinking wrong! Actually, neither Google nor any site that uses Flash to stream a video pays anything to Adobe! Though Flash player is the most widely available software in the world, it generates $0 for Adobe in terms of revenue for playing these videos.

Now it looks like Adobe is in a great mood. They are going to eliminate the fees that phone giants like Nokia, Samsung and Motorola pay for installing Flash in their phone. That means by 2009 billion phones will be using Flash but without paying one single dollar to Adobe!

Well, it must have made you think that those running Adobe are either great philanthropists or poor businessmen. Actually, it is neither of the two. The main money that Adobe makes from Flash is by selling them to programmers and graphic designers who create the program that you view through Flash player! Makes great sense, doesn’t it? People are hooked to online videos and related stuffs and so the companies looking for online consumers will definitely want one to be made for them. Now when they ask the designers and programmers to make them one, they will have to buy Adobe’s multimedia production and editing tools such as Flash, Acrobat, Photoshop and Illustrator, to create those videos!

No wonder this excellent strategy of Adobe saw a 20% annual growth rate since 2002 and turned $3.2 billion dollars in sales last year. The share price of Adobe in that period rose four times higher than Microsoft, its biggest rival.

Audacity - Not At All Audacious

Yesterday while browsing for audio editing software, I happened to see that Audacity, the digital audio editor application is the 9th most popular download from SourceForge.net with 40 millions downloads, as of 30th May 2008. Audacity is a open source software for recording and editing sounds. You can run the application on Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems. This is a free software licensed under GNU GPLv2. but it may update to GPLv3 after it 1.4.0 version. The latest stable version of audacity was 1.2.6, which was released on 15th November in the year 2006. Audacity version 1.3.5 (beta) has been released already but the work is still in progress. It has not yet turned up with complete documentation or translations into foreign languages. The version is more for advanced users rather than the beginners.

Audacity is a user-friendly software. You can edit the audio part with only cut, copy and paste options with unlimited undo options. You can mix multi tracks here with the software with wide storage of digital effects and plug-ins. The software offers the facility of amplitude envelope editing and noise removal. You can also change the pitch of the audio. I have experienced that this software makes necessary adjustment to the audio speed to synchronize with the video. I could even convert cassette tapes or records into digital tracks with the help of it.

Overall. It’s a good software to check out if you are into audio editing. Do post your comments here if you have already used it.

Facebook Unlinked Google Friend Connect

Recently when Google Friend Connect was launched, Google declared that the application will use Facebook's API to pull Facebook user information. But yesterday Facebook banned Google Friend Connect from using their API stating that this breaches the User Privacy and thus is a violation of Facebook's TOC.

Chris Kelly, Chief Privacy Officer of Facebook, said the issue that is violating their TOC is that after giving permission, its users can not revoke it from the Facebook.com interfce. Also Facebook has no control over the third-party websites where the infomation will be displayed because Google acts as the middletier between them.

David Glazer, Google's Director of Enginnering came up with the counter-agumment that they have an option so that users can "Unlink" a particular social network from the site. Glazer also stated that Facebook's API doesn't have the feature to let Facebook know on exactly which site the user data has been posted. He insisted that Google puts high regards for user privacy.

Let's hope that Google and Facebook will sort the issue soon to make internet more social though as of now it seems unlikely (specially with Facebook Connect around)! The only silver-lining is that both the companies have officially stated that they are keen to sort the things out. While Facebook has shown its willingness to work with Friend Connect provided the privacy factor is well taken care of, Google has also stated that they are in "constant contact" with Facebook regarding this issue.

Don't forget to check back here later for more updates on this drama between Google and Facebook.

Google Friend Connect - Get Social, Get Visitors

Initially there used to be some considerable barriers when websites tried to embed social networking features. Google Friend Connect has arrived to change the whole scenario. With Google Friend Connect, any site can offer “interactive” feel to its visitors. What makes this new Google baby all the more attractive is no programming skill is required to integrate it to websites. Webmasters can add social features on the website even without writing any code.

Google has recently announced the beta release of Google Friend Connect. With the help of this Google product, the websites can now have features like user registration, invitation, members gallery, message posting, user reviews etc. They can also have third party applications built by OpenSocial developer community. When visitors are there on a site using Google Friend Connect, they will be able to see, invite and interact with their existing friends in Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Talk, hi5, Orkut, Plaxo and other social networking platforms.

So let me summarize the key reasons why a website owner like you might be interested to integrate Google Friend Connect to your website:
  • You don’t need to write a single line of code. All you need to do is to copy and paste code snippets into your website, sit back and relax. Google Friend Connect will do the rest for you. You do not need to depend on the whims of any programming a team or other social networks. The calculation is simple - Less spending, more profit.

  • You will be able to make your site more interactive with social networking features. In this era of web 2.0 and 3.0 revolution, online visitors prefer sites having interactive modules. And it’s a proven fact: The more you can engage visitors to your website, the more chance is that they will keep coming back to your site. Retaining repeat visitors is the key to online success.

  • When connected with friends through your site, if a visitor finds anything interesting he/she can refer it to friends instantly. And the process ultimately helps you to increase traffic to your site. If you sell any product or service through your website, more traffic means more potential customers and you get a wonderful opportunity to convert them to your actual customers.

Google Friend Connect is extremely easy to install and offers a very user-friendly interface. The process of inviting friends or to broadcast visitor’s activity is very simple. It is also compatible with several OpenSocial gadgets which makes it all the more interesting.

Currently Google Friend Connect is in “Preview Release” form and is available only to limited number of site owners. You can sign up for it to be selected as a partner.

So, website owners, get ready, it’s time to get social.

WYSIWYG HTML Editors – My Life Savers

I own a couple of websites. I simply love them and yes, for the obvious reason that I make money from them. But it’s a headache for me to edit or update them for several business needs. I am a total dumb when it comes to web designing skills like HTML coding and manipulating them. WYSIWYG editors are my life savers in those situations.

If you don’t yet know what WYSIWYG stands for (Please don’t bang your head on computer screen to punish yourself!!), it is the abbreviation of What You See Is What You Get. Used in the computing world, the term actually describes a system through which you will be able to see the final outcome during the editing phase. With these sophisticated tools you do not need to edit the source codes. Instead just edit the actual page elements directly and you can see the end result in the display pane. These are like a boon for non-technical persons like me and save me from spending money on web designers to get small changes done on my websites.

There are so many such WYSIWYG editing tools – and all of them are one-of-its-kind. So therefore hailing one as the best will be injustice to others. Here is a collection of individual reviews of 25 such WYSIWYG editors, though it’s a bit disappointing that this list doesn’t include my favourite WYSIWYG HTML editor as it doesn't cover online editors. This list can be a real help for people who want to know more about and try out WYSIWYG editors.

Video Uploading and Sharing - Not A Very Difficult Task

Earlier it took me hours (that actually seems ages when you are eager to watch any particular video) and I used to curse my Internet connection for the horrible speed. Not only downloading, it applies to the uploading as well. No viewer is going to wait for ages for watching your videos. Personally I wasn’t so enthusiastic about uploading videos in my websites as I used to have troubles managing the videos efficiently. This was the case until I came to know of some of the tips for better and efficient management of video files and today I am going to share these tips with you guys.

First of all, create or select a high quality video with clear resolution. Smaller video with clear resolution is always a better choice than larger ones with high resolution as the small ones take less time to get downloaded. While uploading videos on your site, make sure that you have enough disk space and you are allowed to use maximum bandwidth as these videos really consume a lot of bandwidth.

I have seen many of my friends who neglect the audio section of a video, which is absolutely wrong. The audio clarity plays a vital role in a video as far as quality is concerned. So edit the sounds of the videos separately with some efficient audio editing software before you upload it. No viewer will be attracted to a video with a poor sound quality. Along with the sound quality checking, video compression is also important. If done efficiently, it can improve the download speed of a video without hurting qualities and other parameters so much.

The video sharing procedure sometimes requires usage of some video editing software. But don’t worry. Anybody with no or very little knowledge in video editing can use them. Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 is one of the best packages for this. But it is a bit expensive at the same time. If you cannot afford, you can also try the less expensive counterparts that are available in the market.

Add Some Music With Dexster Audio Editor

Often I am perplexed deciding over the tools for editing and storing audio files. Dexster audio editor has come as an affordable solution. The audio editing software helps me to edit and save audio files over a user-friendly interface. Now I can edit and store files and apply different effects as I feel. I can put in sound or apply mute option as and where needed. Some other features that this application enables me are vocal reduction, stereo mixing option and changing and inserting required data with a marker. I can use filters on different files with a merge audio option.

It may happen that I want to put in some external audio input. Dexster audio editor has made this possible! I can record an audio piece with a microphone or other input device and then put it in with the help of merge audio files. Audio file conversion and formatting can be done along with extraction of audio from internet videos.

After I make the audio edits I can view the necessary changes with the sound preview option. Some popular applications of the audio editing software are compressor/expander, fade in and fade out, cross fading option and flange, phase, normalize and vibrate. The audio editor helps me edit and store both technical and creative files with an audio streaming option. The application comes with a multiple files support system and helps tracking time with the recording timer.

Apple now offers an affordable office suite with the latest addition, the Apple iWork ’08. Numbers spreadsheet application (an exclusive feature) is a variant from Microsoft Excel and it is designed to help me with daily calculations and database maintenance. Earlier I had to rely on MS Excel with Mac, since Apple had no spreadsheet tool of its own. iWork '08 now enables me to read up new files, yet store my work in older format.

From text selection and show font option, image edit and display to formatting ribbon interface, the MS Excel applications are now available on Apple iwork '08 . Pages’ 08 offer track changes that can be integrated with the pages of the Word document. Numbers’08 application comprises table grids and pictures, templates, travel planners, business expense sheets and lab reports. If I want to insert bar-graphs and pie-charts or maps, the spreadsheet appliction enables me with such features. Tables have slide bars for adjusting the numeric value of cells and making estimates, apart from formatting size of columns and rows. 150 formulae are available with natural language shortcuts and numeric calculations.

iWork '08 offers video tutorials and interactive forums and a thirty days free trial for its users. Few Tips On Web Content Editing

While writing an article we often want to grow on its appeal. Once, Twice, Thrice, we read them and every time a new idea springs up. Again we have to edit and re-write the content to make the final copy for the website.

And what we find? We have brought down the writing to half its original!

We want to read a copy that makes us go deep in to the subject. Lucid language is the key-word. Process of transmitting our thoughts in words is done more effectively through writing. While writing we tend to make our pieces elaborate and we do not like making our pieces short, but editing and re-writing really works wonders!

We can put a few tips in daily practice, so as to make an interesting read:

● We should not deviate from the central theme while writing. A number of ideas may cluster together, but it is better not putting them down at once. Read the piece over and again and if we come across something inappropriate we can strike it off.

● Writing for the web involves captivating the visitors with crisp writing. The writing must be brief and to the point. Often long sentences tend to make the writing drab and the reader quickly shifts to the next topic. Short simple sentences can be used and we should remove unnecessary frills. While editing we should try to rearrange the order of words and sentences as to convey the idea in a linear process.

● Break the long sentences into simpler ones. We should see that a single sentence conveys not more than two ideas. Grammar and spelling check is a must and we can remove prepositions, articles or conjunctions where they are not needed.

● We sometimes have formatting problems with content editors, especially while working on Word documents. We can write on a Word document and then format it with the “Paste as Text” option on the editor. If the layout is more complex then we can go for the “Paste from Word” option on the editor. The font and style options and style removal checkboxes can be used to put the writing in the Pop- up window.

● Paragraph spacing is another issue and we either have no or too much space (that sometimes alters the meaning altogether). We can apply a few short cuts, like “Shift + Enter” for a bigger space in between sentences and paragraphs.

● “Align” the text as Left, Center, Right or Justified and then adjust the “Font” color and type. Next, we switch over to the “Preview” option and find how it appears and then our copy is ready for the web!

Enhance Websites With Google Apps

The name I trust for relevant websites is Google. Now I can choose from a host of applications that Google has planned for businesses, employees, schools, students, members and organizations. At present, this service comes free to me and helps sharing information with friends and colleagues.
No installation or set up is needed and I get a free access to these applications when and where I need. Google offers the service with complete security and compliance with existing emails. These applications have not only made everyday work easy, but it helps as we work in groups- on documents, spreadsheets and making presentations.
The site status wizard helps me find whether my website is being indexed by Google, through the webmasters tools. I can also track what turns on the visitors to my site and build site traffic. Tools like Google gadget help me search from a directory and improve my website. Search-engine that is powered by Google, apart from enhancing the site helps in growing the sales and brings down support costs. While webtoolkit makes AJAX applications simpler, Gears like LocalServer, Database and Worker Pool help developers make web applications that can run offline.
Apart from a host of tools, the new age applications from Google are needed for making simple electronic communication and publish and share online information. The applications are made user-friendly so that users have an easy access with an internet connection.

CubeDesktop Pro - Wonder Web Application

CubeDesktop Pro 1.3 series has finally arrived on the scene. The web application creates six virtual and independent desktops, which gives me more free space. It works best with Windows Vista addons, offers real-time updates and makes desktops more attractive with 2D and 3D effects. It simply feels great working on CubeDesktop Pro!
CubeDesktop has offered a refreshing ‘make-over’ for my desktop. Now I can name the desktop and use it with privacy as I have password protection device. In the 1.2 series, the application was updated with a new effect 3D desktop carousel. The desktop application is compatible with Windows XP series and work with lower-end video adapters. CubeDesktop Pro 1.3 series has brought in a host of applications. These include- 3D Desktop rolls, stability enhancers, attractive wallpapers and icon and button managers that add life to desktops.
With CubeDesktop 1.3 the problem of desktop clutter can be removed. The taskbar shows only the applications that I am using at present. This does not occupy much space and does not create a clutter. Now I can work more efficiently as I get an advanced application and desktop management, even while I am working on a number of desktops over a single monitor. Windows Exposer technology tiles and scales all the running applications over a desktop and makes each of them visible.

Daily Computing Gets Simple With Email Archiving

Browsing through our mails is a passion for most of us and email management and archiving helps me in this regard. Email archiving helps me keep a check on overhead costs and my data is also stored safely. Once the set up installation is done, all the incoming and outgoing mails are stored for three to six years. Moreover the data I store in these files gets checked for spam protection and viruses.

For any office mail that is stored, we have the flag messages option to comply with official policies. Not only is my data stored safely but the offsite storage system offer power backups for disaster recovery. Mails are given proper index that makes the process of sorting easy. I can search mails easily and move or restore the folders. My mails are now safe and stored for a longer period of time with automatic file archiving. Archiving and storage facilities are now offered by Athena Archiver Hosted Services through live demo at www.athenaarchiver.com.

Email archiving and management offers a tagging technology which helps me in organizing the data. Emergency discovery of the stored data, mails and files makes the daily computing experience smoother. The costs of e-discovery are now lesser by about 80% and mails are classified by filters that bring down the number of mails to be reviewed. The mails are classified and labeled and then these are directly sent to my inbox. I can now read the mails, approve or block them with a single click, thanks to email archiving.

Handy Tips on Photo Editing

I don’t know about others, but I am still a horrible photographer even with the easiest digital cameras. The last “photo session” I had with my friends and families, half of the photos turned out to be worthless! Some appeared shaken while some looked downright spooky with red eyes! But I had promised to send the photos to everyone in the group and I am sure if I send those pictures, they are not going to talk to me any more nor let me take another photo of them any time soon.

I know that there are many photo editing software that could rectify the mistakes but who was going to teach them to me? The mails were becoming quite threatening by that time, and I was desperate. Luckily, I came across a very good article on photo editing and the in-detail instruction was good enough to salvage the photos (and my neck as well). The article not only gave an overview of the tips to rectify the mistakes but pointed out how to make slide shows and adding text to pictures.

So whether you are looking for photo editing tips and tricks for personal reasons or professional ones, do check this article out to find answers to you queries:

Test Browser Compatibility Before Uploading New Webpages

Browser compatibility testing is a must for a newly created web page simply because different browsers use different rendering engine. This implies that all browsers may not render your page in the same way. This can cause your same page to look differently in different browsers which of course, I hope, you don't want.
After creating a new web page, many webmasters or website owners ignore the task of testing the page locally on their computers. Instead, they tend to directly upload it to the web server and test the page from there. But it is always advisable to test your page for browser compatibility on your local machine. Just browse the file that you saved on your local hard disk and open it in your browser. Don't forget to preview your page in several browsers. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari, in no particular order are the most widely-used browsers. So be sure to check your page in at least these four browsers. If you are using any website editing software to create your pages, you can also preview it from inside that tool.
One problem that may arise while you are testing your web page on local machine. If you have used reference path to link to other pages of your site, those pages may not be found if they are not in the same directory. Be sure to use absolute path to link to other pages and external CSS and Javascript files before testing.
Once you have tested your webpage locally and you are satisfied with the result, upload it on to your web server and again test from there.

Use CSS Style "Float" to Align Images, Not "Text-align"

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This holds true in every sphere of life and a website is no exception to that. Graphics on a webpage grab the visitors' attention quickly and hook them onto your website. So always use interesting images on your website that describe your point of view thus enhancing the effect of your text.

But one common problem, most of the website owners who don't have sound knowledge in web design face, is the proper alignment of text and images. We mostly tend to align text and images with the "text-align" property. But as the name suggests, using this property, only text can be aligned. This property is no good to adjust the position of chunk elements like images, tables etc. Though some modern advanced browsers can coordinate images using "text-align" property, but at the same time many can't.

So to make images on a webpage fully compatible to every browsers, you should use the style property "float" to align your images. This property specifies the position of the floated element and other elements around it. A sample of code where the image will be aligned left and the text to the right of it will be:

<p>
<img src="example.jpg" alt="Your Alt Text" style="float:left;" />
Your Paragraph Text
</p>
This can easily be done using any website editing tool.

Third Party Plug-in Support for Apple Aperture 2
